Stamp Fairtex (L) (ONE Championship)

Demetrious Johnson Talks Up Stamp Fairtex

Stamp Fairtex shined in her American debut and put herself back in position to challenge for atomweight gold. When she gets her opportunity to take home the ONE Interim Women’s Atomweight World Championship, Demetrious Johnson believes she will get the job done.

The ONE Flyweight World Champion lauded the Thai star’s skills in a recent interview with ONE Championship. “Mighty Mouse” talked about her recent win over Alyse Anderson and why he thinks she is a big factor in the division.

“Amazing growth from Stamp. Stamp is really big for the weight class, and strong. Not taking anything away from Alyse Anderson, but I felt that there was a huge size difference when I saw Anderson compared to Stamp,” Johnson told ONE.

Johnson has gotten to see Stamp compete in-person on a couple of occasions. Most notable are ONE Fight Night 10 and ONE X, when Stamp nearly defeated Angela Lee for the atomweight crown in her first attempt.

The Washington native has been impressed by her growth in mixed martial arts, and only sees the elite grapplers of the world being able to stop the Thai force.

“Stamp has done amazing [with] her development. I think she’s going to have to run into somebody who’s a very big, athletic wrestler [in order to face any] trouble. I don’t see anybody in ONE Championship that’s going to be able to beat her,” Johnson stated.

On Sep. 1, at ONE Fight Night 14, Stamp will square off against second-ranked atomweight contender Ham Seo Hee.

The South Korean has been a long-time force and is on a nine-bout winning streak. However, Johnson is clear he sides with Stamp and proclaims that she will soon preside over the atomweight world.

“I think she’ll probably be an [MMA] champion here soon,” Johnson said.

ONE Fight Night 14 airs live on Friday, Sep. 1, on Prime Video. The event will be free for all U.S. and Canadian Amazon Prime subscribers at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
