Janet Todd (L) (ONE Championship)

ONE Fight Night 20: Todd vs. Phetjeeja Preview and Predictions

On Friday, Mar. 8, ONE Championship will host a special event, ONE Fight Night 20, inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The Amazon Prime Video production is taking place on International Women’s Day, with all nine bouts featuring female fighters.

In the main event, Janet Todd will close out her fighting career with her first ONE women’s atomweight kickboxing title defense. It’ll be easier said than done for “JT,” as she’s scheduled to face Phetjeeja, a 22-year-old holding a lifetime combined Muay Thai and kickboxing record of 206-6.

Meanwhile, the co-main event is another women’s atomweight world title fight, as Allycia Hellen Rodrigues looks to retain her Muay Thai throne. To do so, the Brazilian must get through Cristina Morales, who made a statement by securing a first-round knockout win against Anna “Supergirl” Jaroonsak in Nov. 2023.

ONE Fight Night 20 also features Jackie Buntan vs. Martine Michieletto (Muay Thai), Lara Fernandez vs. Yu Yau Pui (Muay Thai), Jihin Radzuan vs. Chihiro Sawada (MMA), and more.

The event airs live on Amazon Prime Video starting at 8 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the preview and predictions for ONE Fight Night 20.

Janet Todd looks to end her career as the undisputed atomweight kickboxing champion; can she hold off interim champion Petchjeeja Lukjaporongtom in her retirement fight?

In Feb. 2020, Janet Todd defeated Stamp Fairtex by split decision to become the ONE atomweight kickboxing world champion. Since then, Todd has fought four times in Muay Thai and waited for a worthy challenger to defend her throne.

The time has finally come, as rising superstar Phetjeeja claimed the interim throne by defeating Lara Fernandez. Phetjeeja has become a fan favorite amongst ONE supporters, as she holds a 5-0 promotional record between Muay Thai and kickboxing, with four wins by knockout.

Todd recently did an interview with Combat Press and revealed her plans to retire after ONE Fight Night 20. Therefore, the negative stereotype of fighters having one foot out the door could be a factor in the main event later this week.

Regardless of the mental battle, Phetjeeja is too fast, too powerful, and too dangerous. Todd has more high-level experience, but it won’t make a difference, as Phetjeeja will likely get the job done inside the distance to become the new ONE women’s atomweight kickboxing queen.

The atomweight Muay Thai championship is at stake in the co-main event; can incumbent Brazilian champion Allycia Rodrigues hold off Spain’s Cristina Morales?

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues was riding momentum before suffering a third-round knockout loss against Smilla Sundell in a weight class up. The 25-year-old Brazilian now looks to bounce back by returning to atomweight and defending her world title against Cristina Morales.

Morales had high expectations in her 2021 ONE debut against Anissa Meksen. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, she suffered a second-round knockout loss and returned to training. In Nov. 2023, the 30-year-old silenced the doubters by knocking out Supergirl in round one of a one-sided matchup.

Morales looked phenomenal in her statement-making performance against Supergirl. With that said, Rodrigues is a different beast, especially when fighting at her natural weight class. This fight has everything needed for a show-stealing, back-and-forth battle.

Once the dust settles, Rodrigues should retain her throne with a unanimous decision win.

Jackie Buntan looks to make it three consecutive wins, as she takes on Martine Michieletto in a catchweight Muay Thai bout; which woman gets her hand raised when all is said and done?

Jackie Buntan was scheduled for a highly-anticipated rematch with Smilla Sundell before pulling out due to undisclosed personal issues. The American plans to secure another shot against Sundell by taking out Martine Michieletto in her return bout.

Michieletto made her ONE debut against Amber Kitchen in Jun. 2023. Kitchen had her moments in the fight, but “The Italian Queen” wouldn’t be denied, as she secured the unanimous decision win. Michieletto now looks to potentially earn a strawweight Muay Thai title shot by taking out Buntan.

Buntan has been unbeatable in her ONE tenure against anyone not named Smilla Sundell. Therefore, it’ll be tough for Michieletto to overcome the American’s forward pressure, which should lead to a win inside the distance for the latter.

Which fight is the sleeper matchup on this card?

The sleeper matchup for ONE Fight Night 20 is a women’s atomweight MMA bout between Jihin Radzuan and Chihiro Sawada.

Over the last six years, Radzuan has been a mainstay in the ONE Championship women’s atomweight scene. Now holding a promotional record of 8-3, “Shadow Cat” hopes to continue building momentum moment after defeating Jenelyn Olsim by third-round submission.

Meanwhile, Chihiro Sawada made her promotional debut in Feb. 2023, defeating Sanaz Fayazmanesh by second-round submission. With a win against Radzuan, Sawada would prove she belongs in the ONE women’s atomweight title picture.
