On Saturday, Sept. 16, DEEP returned to the Ota Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, for DEEP 79 Impact.
In the evening’s main event, DEEP’s first strawweight champion Kanta “Kang” Sato looked to make the first defense of his title against long-time DEEP and Shooto veteran Haruo Ochi. In the first meeting, Sato beat Ochi by split decision in the semifinals of the strawweight championship tournament at DEEP 76 Impact in June 2016.
In the night’s co-main event, top RIZIN flyweight and former DEEP champion Tatsumitsu Wada fought the always exciting Kosuke “Rambo” Suzuki. Wada, 28, had won six straight prior including a victory over The Ultimate Fighter 24 alumni Kai Kara-France.
Elsewhere on the card, Rizin women’s MMA stars Reina Miura and Kanako Murata took on Young Ji Kim and Yukari Nabe, respectively.
