On Saturday, Sept. 27, the UFC will host UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
In the main event of the evening, flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will defend his 125-pound title against challenger Chris Cariaso. Johnson enters the contest riding a six-fight winning streak, including four straight title defenses. The 28-year-old was last in action at UFC 174 in June, topping Ali Bagautinov by decision. Cariaso, meanwhile, carries a three-fight streak of his own. The 33-year-old striking stalwart has gone 7-3 inside the Octagon leading up to the title affair.
The co-main event will feature the long-awaited UFC debut of former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, who takes on the red-hot Donald Cerrone. Alvarez recently gained his release from Bellator MMA after reclaiming the promotion’s 155-pound title last fall. Cerrone has scored four straight finishes leading into the bout.
Also on the main card, Irish featherweight sensation Conor McGregor will face the toughest test of his career as he takes on veteran Dustin Poirier.
The 11-fight event kicks off Saturday with two fights streaming live on UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET. Four additional preliminary card bouts follow on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET, with the five-fight main card airing live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET.
