On Saturday, July 30, the UFC hosted UFC 201: Lawler vs. Woodley from the Philips Arena in Atlanta.
In the night’s main event, welterweight champion Robbie Lawler looked to continue his reign over the 170-pound division as he took on Tyron Woodley. The 34-year-old Lawler had won five straight, including back-to-back “Fight of the Year” performances against Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald. Woodley, meanwhile, had won four of his last five Octagon appearances, most recently besting Kelvin Gastelum via decision at UFC 183 last January.
Also on the card, former women’s strawweight title challenger Rose Namajunas aimed to hand undefeated Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz her first professional loss. The 24-year-old Namajunas had won three straight since her title defeat to Carla Esparza in late 2014. The fellow Invicta FC veteran Kowalkiewicz had won two straight in the UFC to extend her record to 9-0.
The 11-fight event kicked off Saturday at 7 p.m. ET with two fights streaming on UFC Fight Pass. Four additional preliminary card bouts followed at 8 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 2, with the five-fight main card airing live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET.
