On Saturday, Sept. 5, the UFC hosted UFC 191: Johnson vs. Dodson 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
In the night’s main event, the promotion’s flyweight kingpin, Demetrious Johnson, put his belt on the line against a familiar foe, John Dodson. The pair met previously at UFC on Fox 6 in January of 2013, with Johnson earning a unanimous decision win over The Ultimate Fighter winner Dodson. Since then, “Mighty Mouse” had gone on to defend his belt five more times, including a fifth-round submission of Kyoji Horiguchi at UFC 186. Dodson, meanwhile, had reeled off three straight wins since the title defeat. The New Mexico fighter spent time on the shelf due to a knee injury, but earned another crack at Johnson with a decision win over Zach Makovsky at UFC 187.
The co-main event featured a long overdue heavyweight match-up between former titleholders Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir. The two veterans had experienced career resurgences of late, with Arlovski winning five straight and Mir earning back-to-back first-round knockouts.
The 11-fight event kicked off Saturday at 7 p.m. ET with two fights streaming on UFC Fight Pass. Four additional preliminary card bouts followed at 8 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1, with the five-fight main card airing live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET.
