On Saturday, Sept. 14, the UFC hosted its 16th event on ESPN+ from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
In the night’s main event, two of the lightweight division’s most exciting fighters locked horns as former title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone took on former World Series of Fighting champion Justin Gaethje. Cerrone had earned four straight “of the Night” bonuses, but saw a three-fight winning streak snapped at UFC 238 against Tony Ferguson. Similarly, Gaethje had earned bonuses in all five of his Octagon appearances, including his back-to-back knockouts of James Vick and Edson Barboza.
After a back-and-forth brawl to kick off the fight, Gaethje was able to stun Cowboy before the end of the first round and land the TKO victory.
