While the date of UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes’ future wedding to strawweight Nina Ansaroff is not yet publicly known, the date of her next Octagon appearance is: Dec. 29 at UFC 232 in Las Vegas.
ESPN reported Nunes will be moving up in weight to challenge women’s featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino for her title. The news comes after much speculation and UFC President Dana White announcing the news directly to ESPN.
The bout has been discussed openly by Justino since last year with White saying this past July, “That’s the fight to make. I don’t know when we’ll get it done, but that’s the fight to make. That’s the fight I want, I know that’s the fight the fans want, and it’s the fight we need to get done.”
Nunes has been out of action since finishing Raquel Pennington by TKO in the main event of UFC 224 in Nunes’ native Brazil. Her fellow countrywoman in Justino last fought at UFC 222 in early March, putting away Invicta FC bantamweight champion Yana Kunitskaya at the 3:25 mark of the first round.
In a translated interview with Brazilian outlet Combate in mid-July, Justino said of the December date, ”I think this fight will be my last in the UFC, because my contract goes until March and I doing this fight in December, I think it will be the last one the guys will see me fight.”
No other bouts for UFC 232 have been announced at this time.
