One of Europe’s largest kickboxing promotions, Superkombat, has announced a new partnership with the United States-based cable television channel, CBS Sports Network. The deal features six television broadcasts in 2017.
The promotion revealed the broadcasts will feature fighters from North America and around the world. The promotion, which is based in Bucharest, Romania, features a plethora of European and Romania-born talent. The broadcasts are set to feature title fights featuring some of the promotion’s top international talent in both kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Superkombat holds most of the promotion’s fights under kickboxing rules, but the promotion has started to put on more MMA rules bouts as the popularity of the combat sport continues to rise in Europe.
Superkombat is coming off of a successful 2016 that produced one of the largest kickboxing events held in Europe, the Superkombat World Grand Prix 2016: Comănești. The record-breaking event featured the largest attendance for a kickboxing event in Europe since the K-1 World Grand Prix in 2007. The 34,000 in attendance filled the Dealul Galionului, open-air concert venue, to watch the retirement fight of popular Romanian actor and kickboxing champion Ionuţ Iftimoaie. Iftimoaie went toe-to-toe with former top-10 middleweight Francisco Javier Jorge Loren to win the Superkombat Cruiserweight title in the final fight of his career.
The promotion will release the television broadcast schedule at a later date.
