Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson won a dominant unanimous decision against Rory MacDonald in the night’s main event, which solidified his spot as the No. 1 contender in the UFC’s welterweight division. Rizzo and Kelly talked about Thompson’s outstanding performance in Ottawa and 26-year-old MacDonald’s future.
Valerie Letourneau vs. Joanne Calderwood marked the first-ever female flyweight fight in the Octagon. Calderwood won via TKO in an exciting fight, but missed out on a performance bonus. The hosts discussed Calderwood’s Instagram post claiming she will have to work in her home country of Scotland to raise funds and return to Tristar in Canada to train, as well as the possibility and reason a woman’s flyweight division is needed.
Rizzo and Kelly also looked at other results from the card, including Donald Cerrone over Patrick Côté, Steve Bossé beating Sean O’Connell, Misha Cirkunov’s finish of Ion Cutelaba, Olivier Aubin-Mercier’s rally versus Thibault Gouti and the rest of the fights on UFC Fight Night 89. The Rizzo triplets also gave their special thoughts on Father’s Day.
