On Saturday, Aug. 8, the UFC hosted UFC Fight Night 73: Teixeira vs. Saint Preux from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
In the night’s main event, former title challenger Glover Teixeira clashed with fellow light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux. The Brazilian Teixeira saw a 20-fight, seven-year winning streak snapped in a title defeat to Jon Jones last spring and then dropped a decision to Phil Davis in October. The two-fight skid marked the first losing streak of the veteran’s career. The Tennessee native “OSP” shot up the 205-pound ranks by winning seven of his last eight, including his last two over Patrick Cummins and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
The co-main event featured a pivotal lightweight contest between TUF alum Michael Johnson and Beneil Dariush. Johnson surged into the top 10 with four straight wins. The Blackzilians fighter most recently topped Edson Barboza on the scorecards. The 26-year-old Dariush had also impressed in his six Octagon appearances, winning five fights, including four straight.
The 13-fight event kicked off Saturday with three preliminary card bouts streaming live on UFC Fight Pass at 6:30 p.m. ET. Four additional preliminary card bouts aired live on Fox Sports 2 at 8 p.m. ET, with the six-fight main card taking place at 10 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.
