On Saturday, Aug. 23, the UFC hosted UFC Fight Night 49: Henderson vs. dos Anjos from the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The night’s main event featured former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson against hard-charging Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos. Henderson lost his 155-pound strap last August to current champion Anthony Pettis but had bounced back to edge Josh Thomson on the scorecards, and most recently, submit Rustam Khabilov in June. Dos Anjos was also in action in June, stopping Jason High via second-round TKO. The win was the Brazilian’s sixth in his last seven Octagon appearances.
In the co-main event, welterweights Jordan Mein and Mike Pyle locked horns. Mein was originally tabbed to face Brandon Thatch, while Pyle was slated to face Demian Maia, but injuries derailed both of those match-ups. As a result, Canada’s Mein faced the crafty submission fighter Pyle.
The 11-fight card kicked off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET with a lone bout streaming live on UFC Fight Pass. Four additional bouts followed on Fox Sports 2 at 8 p.m. ET, with the six-fight main card beginning at 10 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.
