Tawanchai Discusses His ONE 170 Title Defense in Superbon Rematch

ONE Championship has a stacked lineup for ONE 170 and is ready to rock Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, Jan. 24.

At the top of the bill is a stellar ONE Featherweight Muay Thai Title bout between defending king Tawanchai PK Saenchai and featherweight kickboxing champion Superbon.

The fiery affair will mark their second battle for the coveted crown, with Tawanchai sitting pretty at 1-0 in the series, following his majority decision win at ONE Friday Fights 46.

When asked how he thinks the bout will go down, the Thai striking dynamo made it clear that he expects it to be a continuation of their epic barnburner in December 2023.

“The second fight against Superbon should be just as fun as the first one because Superbon should be more familiar with Muay Thai. I’m ready,” Tawanchai commented to ONE.

His familiarity with Superbon has the featherweight Muay Thai king brimming with confidence.

He knows his game well and doesn’t see him bringing anything new to the title tilt, which will go down in front of a sold-out crowd.

“Superbon’s strengths are his sharp eye, razor attacks, and good timing. But now, I can read him like a book. I know every trick he’s going to bring to me, but I won’t say them now,” Tawanchai said.

Even with the feeling that he can predict Superbon’s every move, Tawanchai is not taking anything for granted. He knows that in four-ounce gloves, anything can happen, especially when two of the best strikers in the world are involved.

“I can’t predict this fight because this is a matchup between fighters of the same level whose skills are on par. But, I still don’t want to lose. I absolutely can’t lose,” he stated.

“What I want to prove in this fight is that I want to make everyone who comes to watch it is entertained. It’ll be absolutely incredible. This fight’s going to be a barnburner.”

Tawanchai has big plans for 2025, and it all begins with defending his crown.

If he can do that, the 25-year-old plans to move to kickboxing glory and become a two-sport titleholder.

“My goal in 2025 is to keep my Muay Thai belt and become the kickboxing king,” he said.

While his status as a champion and pound-for-pound talent would instantly put him into the title picture, Tawanchai isn’t angling for an immediate title shot.

Ever the gracious competitor, he is willing to prove himself against any of the kickboxing elite in order to work his way up to standing firm as the best featherweight striker on the planet, bar none.

“If I win this fight against Superbon, I want to cross over to kickboxing and fight anyone in the rankings,” Tawanchai said.

“If I have to fight for the World Title against Superbon, I’m happy to do so because I want to get a kickboxing belt to prove myself.”

ONE 170 airs live from Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, Jan. 24.
