Combat Press Kickboxing Rankings: July 2024

As kickboxing continues to grow on a global scale with promotions like GLORY, K-1, ONE Championship, and more, fighters are constantly jockeying for position in the eyes (and rankings) of the media. Every month, Combat Press will compile kickboxing rankings for each weight class from heavyweight to strawweight, as well as the pound-for-pound rankings for both men and women.

Note: the numbers in parentheses represent the fighter’s ranking from the previous month.

Heavyweight (95+ kilograms)

On Jun. 8, third-ranked heavyweight Bahram Rajabzadeh competed in the GLORY Light Heavyweight Grand Prix. In Round 1, he scored a knockout of Ibrahim El Bouni with a flying knee, and he followed that up with a second-round TKO of Sergej Maslobojev. However, in the tournament final, he lost a first-round TKO to former light heavyweight champ Donegi Abena. The heavyweight rankings remain unchanged.

Due to the GLORY Light Heavyweight Grand Prix on Jun. 8, there was a lot of action, and movement, in the division. In the quarterfinals, third-ranked heavyweight Bahram Rajabzadeh scored a knockout of fifth-ranked light heavyweight Ibrahim El Bouni, GLORY light heavyweight champ Tarik Khbabez picked up a decision over Pascal Touré, third-ranked Sergej Maslobojev won a first-round TKO over Bogdan Stoica, and former GLORY champ Donegi Abena was victorious over fourth ranked Ștefan Lătescu. So, the quarterfinals caused no movement in the rankings.

In the semifinals of the GLORY tournament, Rajabzadeh won a TKO over Maslobojev, and Abena avenged his title loss in his rematch with Khababez. Abena jumped to the top spot in the rankings, and Rajabzadeh entered at No. 3. In the final, Abena won the tournament with a first-round TKO of Rajabzadeh, when the referee stopped it after Abena peppered his opponent with punches.

A week after the GLORY tournament, No. 7 Thian de Vries continued his winning streak with a first-round TKO of Yuri Ceita Elite Combat League II. However, even in victory, he moves down one notch, as done everyone below the thrid spot, which was taken over by Rajabzadeh. This leaves Nikita Kozlov as the odd man out, and he exits the top 10.

On Jun. 8, at ONE 167, fourth-ranked Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong defeated Masaaki Noiri by unanimous decision in Noiri’s promotional debut. A week later, tenth-ranked Kaito Ono used a second-round left hook to knock out Arman Hambaryan at SHOOT BOXING 2024 act.3. The rankings remain unchanged.

On Jun. 15, at RISE World Series 2024 Osaka, eighth-ranked Petru Morari dropped to -65kg and lost a unanimous decision to Taiju Shiratori. That same night, ninth-ranked Ryota Nakano went to a technical draw with Meison Hide Usami after extra rounds. Then, on Jun. 29, Jomthong Strikegym, who was sitting just outside the rankings scored a unanimous decision win over Hossein Zadeh at Kunlun Fight 100. With that said, Jomthong re-enters the rankings at No. 8, Moriari and Nakano each drop a spot, and tenth-ranked Zhou Jiaqiang falls out of the top 10.

On Jun. 15, at RISE World Series 2024 Osaka, tenth-ranked Taiju Shiratori defeated Petru Morari by unanimous decision. Two weeks later, ninth-ranked Kiamran Nabati used a left hook to score a first-round knockout of Suablack Tor.Pran49 at ONE Friday Fights 68. The rankings remain unchanged. However, there were also a couple ranked featherweights, who had Muay Thai bouts that did not affect the rankings.

While second-ranked kickboxing featherweight Chadd Collins won the vacant WMO world super lightweight title down at -63.5kg, sixth-ranked Tetsuya Yamato lost a unanimous decision to Kaewkangwan Sithporkae at Suk Wanchai MuayThai Super Fight on Jun. 30.

While no ranked super bantamweights were in action in June, Australia’s Chadd Collins got back to his winning ways, albeit in a Muay Thai battle, when he scored a second-round knockout of Rungkit Bor.Rungrot at War on the Shore 24 for the vacant WMO world super lightweight title at -63.5kg. The kickboxing rankings remain unchanged.

Two ranked bantamweights has wins in June. First, at RISE World Series 2024 Osaka on Jun. 15, sixth-ranked Taiga Kawabe won a unanimous decision over Daniel Puertas. Two weeks later, top-ranked kickboxer Superlek Kiatmoo9scored a unanimous Muay Thai decision win over Konthoranee Sor.Sommai at ONE Friday Fights 68. The rankings remain unchanged.

On Jun. 23, eighth-ranked Ryusei Kumagai fought Taimu Hisei at KNOCK OUT 2024 SUPER BOUT BLAZE for the inaugural KNOCK OUT Black Super Featherweight title (-60kg). Hisei scored the unanimous decision over Kumagai. However, the bout was a couple kilograms over the super flyweight limit, so Kumagai holds his spot in this division. On Jun. 28, second-ranked Kaito Sakaguchi picked up a unanimous decision win over Lan Shanteng at ONE Friday Fights 68, so he also holds his spot in the rankings.

At ONE Friday Fights 68 on Jun. 28, seventh-ranked Jonathan Di Bella lost his ONE strawweight title by unanimous decision to Prajanchai PK.Saenchai. Two days later, top-ranked Shiro Matsumoto kept his spot with a unanimous decision victory over Christian Manzo. Prajanchai enters at No. 7, pushing everyone below him down, and Ryunosuke Omori falls out of the rankings.

In Muay Thai action, which does not affect the kickboxing rankings, on Jun. 7, at ONE Friday Fights 66, eighth-ranked Akram Hamidi defeated Kongchai Chanaidonmuang with a first-round TKO. However, as mentioned above, Hamidi drops to No. 9.

On Jun. 15, at RISE World Series 2024 Osaka, the top two strawweights were victorious to hold onto their spots in the rankings. First, No. 1 Toki Tamaru put away Hyeonwoo Jung with a body kick in the first round. Then, in the night’s headliner, second-ranked Kazuki Osaki, the RISE super flyweight champ, defended his title with a five-round decision win over fourth-ranked Jin Mandokoro. At the end of the month, at RISE 179, fifth-ranked Ryu Hanoaka won a unanimous decision over Kaito Hasegawa. The rankings remain unchanged.
