Chicago has another lightweight contest.
The UFC has announced a lightweight bout between James Krause and Daron Cruickshank for the UFC on Fox 16 event which takes place on July 25 at the United Center in Chicago.
Cruickshank will be looking to bounce back after coming off a submission loss at the hands of surging contender Beneil Dariush at UFC 185. Prior to that bout Cruickshank fought K.J. Noons in a fight that ended in a no-contest due to Cruickshank being accidentally poked in the eye.
Krause heads into the bout having suffered back-to-back setbacks inside the Octagon, dropping decisions to Jorge Masvidal and Valmir Lazaro. Krause has amassed a 2-3 record in the UFC and impressed in his debut at UFC 161 when he was awarded submission of the night honors for his victory over Sam Stout.
UFC on Fox 16 is set to be headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between current champion T.J. Dillashaw and former bantamweight kingpin Renan Barao. The rematch was originally slated for UFC 186, however due to an injury sustained by the current champion the bout was called off. Dillashaw defeated Barao at UFC 173 by TKO in the fifth round in a fight that many labeled as the ‘upset of the year’.
More bouts for UFC on Fox 16 are likely to be announced in the coming weeks.
