Ruan Potts (EFC Worldwide)

EFC 40: Ruan Potts vs. Cyril Asker Video Preview

On Saturday, June 6, EFC Worldwide will hold its 40th event from Carnival City, Johannesburg.

The event is headlined by a welterweight clash between former welterweight champion and EFC veteran Dino Bagattin and former middleweight contender Dricus du Plessis. The fight will mark the welterweight debut for du Plessis.

In the co-main event, former EFC heavyweight champion Ruan Potts makes his return to the promotion after a three-fight stint in the UFC. Potts will meet Frenchman Cyril Asker, who made his EFC debut at EFC 37 and earned a unanimous decision over Ricky Misholas.

After making his debut in the UFC in 2014, the former EFC heavyweight champion Potts went on a three-fight skid that saw him released from his contract. Prior to his time in the UFC’s heavyweight division, Potts had won three fights in a row inside the Hexagon, with all three wins coming by way of submission. All eight of the former champion’s wins have come by way of stoppage and Potts will look to get a step closer to reclaiming his belt, which was vacated when he joined the UFC.

With his first fight under the EFC banner a success, Asker now has a tough task ahead of him in the former champion. The 29-year-old has won his last three fights, including two first-round finishes.

Above is a video preview of the co-main event clash between Potts and Asker.
