UFC 226 Results: Cormier KO’s Miocic in Stunner, Lewis Takes Sleeper

On Saturday, July 7, the UFC hosted UFC 226 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In the night’s main event, the promotion’s heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, clashed with light heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier. The 35-year-old Miocic entered the match-up riding a six-fight winning streak that included five wins by stoppage. He successfully defended the heavyweight strap in three consecutive bouts. Cormier, meanwhile, mowed down everyone put in front of him not named Jon Jones. The Olympic wrestler most recently stopped Volkan Oezdemir in January to set up the heavyweight superfight.

In an unexpected turn of events, Cormier knocked out Miocic in less than five minutes. Cormier is now the second two-division UFC champ in history.

Gold was also supposed to be on the line in the co-main event as featherweight kingpin Max Holloway was expected to face off with undefeated challenger Brian Ortega. However, the bout was pulled from the card after Holloway experienced concussion symptoms during fight week.
