Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez Set For Sept. 16, Location To Be Determined

The wait is finally over.

Following the HBO Boxing pay-per-view between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Julio César Chávez Jr. on Saturday, May 6, it was revealed that the victorious Alvarez would next face middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin.

The bout, one of boxing’s most anticipated match-ups, will take place Saturday, Sept. 16. One of the potential landing spots for the bout is the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will be a middleweight championship affair.

Golovkin enters the bout with a perfect, 37-0 record that includes 33 knockouts. The 35-year-old was most recently in action in March, claiming a decision win over Daniel Jacobs.

Alvarez, meanwhile, moved his record to 49-1-1 with his lopsided decision win over Chavez Jr. The Mexican’s lone loss came against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.

More details about the event, including the undercard lineup, will be announced at a later date.
